Resilient Cities

Resilient Cities aims to inform the design, planning, and management for cities not only to be resilient to climate change but to be adaptive if needed.

Adan’s ongoing work in this line of research intersects governance principles and design of urban green spaces to enhance sustainability and adaptability in rapidly growing urban areas. For instance, together with colleagues and students at SLU, Adan is currently exploring willingness of residents in Umeå, Sweden, to pay and to participate in the management of urban green spaces —with and eye on promoting a sustainable co-existence of humans, pets, and wildlife.

This study examines benefits of teleworking in Mexico City in pre-COVID-19 times, focusing on the perspective of office workers. We gather their willingness to accept a pay cut in exchange for working remotely two days a week from a shared office. We document that office workers are willing to pay for the flexibility and reduced commuting time offered by teleworking, particularly those with higher incomes and shorter commutes. This findings have direct implications for public policy in Mexico City, particularly concerning transportation, housing, and labor regulations.
